Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A fact-finding team from Delhi was recently prevented from entering the Howrah and Hooghly areas in West Bengal, where violence had occurred during Ram Navami celebrations. The six-member delegation had planned to speak with victims and report their findings to the Center.
However, police stopped the team from entering the area, citing Section 144, which restricts public gatherings, as the reason for their decision. According to the police, the situation in the area is still volatile, and there is a risk that the presence of the fact-finding team could lead to a breach of the peace.
The fact-finding team argued that they had informed the police of their visit and had planned to talk to people in the area to gather information. They also intended to speak with the Chandannagar Police Commissioner. The police collected the necessary documents from the team and sent them to higher authorities.
The recent violence during Ram Navami celebrations has sparked political controversy, with the Chief Minister of West Bengal blaming the BJP for the incidents, while the BJP has accused the ruling TMC of Muslim appeasement and orchestrating the violence. The situation in the area remains tense, with Section 144 still in place.
